Shinguuji Sakura

Background :

[ ... ]Sakura is the only child of Shinguuji Kazuma, a Colonel of the Imperial Army's Anti-Demon Unit, and his wife, Wakana. Her father fought in the last Demon War, but died of his injuries three months after the war ended. Sakura is the last descendant of the Shinguuji exorcismal bloodline. She is also a master of the Hokushin Ittouryu swordfighting style.

For some time after her father's death, Sakura became aimless and depressed, allowing her skills to deteriorate. However, sensing that the demons were making a return into the world, she took up the enchanted sword Arataka, a sacred family heirloom, and worked hard to improve herself. Within a short amount of time, she had mastered the necessary skills needed to battle the demons.

Recognising the need to include a fighter who is powerful (especially in the spiritual premise), Colonel Yoneda Ikki himself set out to recruit the young Sakura into the Teikoku Kagekidan Hanagumi unit. As it is her destiny to battle the demons wherever they may appear, Sakura was soon on her way to the capital.

Personality :

'Traditional' would be the most apt way to describe Sakura at first glance. Even her preferences in everyday wear would indicate this.

Sakura is generally sweet, soft-spoken, and compassionate. Of course, this initially meant that she was quickly overwhelmed by more forceful personalities (ie. Sumire). The young Shinguuji's entry into the Hanagumi was remarkable in the fact that she had an extremely hard time in winning the support of the others. These difficulties ate away at her resolve and almost prompted her to leave the Teikoku Kagekidan.

However, in spite of her initial disapproval of Sakura, Maria, the team leader at the time, approached the young girl and managed to convince her to stay. She then gradually pushed to include Sakura into taking part in more of the group's activities, much to Sumire's ire. In time, Sakura's determination resurfaced and she slowly regained faith in her own abilities.

While Sakura is easygoing and eager to help, she can be more than a little accident-prone. She gets along well with just about everyone, although she can get slightly nasty wherever Sumire is concerned. On the whole, this rivalry is kept somewhat under control, as both have come to learn much about the other.

She loves acting up on stage and continuously tries her best to improve on her acting and singing skills. Thanks to her determined efforts, Sakura is now one of the Teigeki's fastest rising stars.

In spite of her heritage and her abilities, Sakura likes to regard herself as a normal girl. She has an unfortunate tendency to get jealous easily. Due to a childhood accident involving her closest friend, she has a deep, abiding fear of thunder and lightning, and big storms can reduce her to a nervous wreck.
